Joseph Douglas was born about 1695 in Charles County, Maryland. His parents were John Douglas and Catherine Heard.

He married Sarah Story daughter of Walter Story. Sarah was born about 1700 in William and Mary Parish.

Joseph Douglas sold 100 acres to Guy White on May 7, 1701.

In 1726 Sarah and her three sisters inherited one third of the remainder of her father's estate.

In 1752 Joseph Douglas's seating number in the William and Mary Parish was 24.
